You mean you haven’t heard the sound of the Pharrell, N.E.R.D., Santogold and Julian Casablancas collaboration for the 100th anniversary of Converse? Now’s your chance.

Are you awaiting the release of The Coast’s Expatriate in August? If so, perhaps this Tokyo Police Club remix of “Tightrope” will keep you satisfied until then.

Despite a fairly eclectic taste in music, I’m not normally one for dance electronica. 4 Gotten Floor’s “Sooner Or Later” might be an exception. Cheeky. Thumpin’. Discoball-ready.

Polaris Music Prize (Canadia’s answer to the Mercury Prize) long-listers, The Acorn, sent around a slowed-down-and-transformed cover of Cyndi Lauper’s Goonies triumph.

One of my favorite songs received within the last month, J Roddy & The Business get to down to it in “Stop Rip And Roll”. You must download this one, if nothing else than for the first 30 seconds. A superb blending of U.S. and U.K. indie-rock sounds (despite being 100% U.S. Grade A Prime) with a throwback twist. If you like this track, then keep an ear to the ground for the 9 September release of Hail Mega Boys or, if you live in North America, check local listings for J Roddy & The Business on tour in September and October.

You’ll see Erica Quitzow appear twice. Once here and again a bit below. This is dynamite stuff. If you liked New Young Pony Club and CSS, then you will enjoy the sound captured in Art College.

Whoa! I’ve been time-warped back and forth! Compared to Simon & Garfunkel, Belle & Sebastian and Peter, Bjorn & John, This Is Ivy League is old school, no, wait, new school, no, wait … Stop! Give them a try yourself and you decide exactly. Me likes and I know the Bean will, too.

I said Erica Quitzow would appear again, this time as part of Setting Sun. However, if you’ve already heard solo Quitzow or listened to the track available above, then you’re in for something entirely different. Gary Levitt and Setting Sun are heavy on the strings and harmonies, but manage to press some synthesizer into action as well (find the haunting “No Devil Me No More” for some of that). For your listening pleasure today, we end with proper indie folk from Setting Sun. Good times.
