Cornershop is one my most beloved bands and it’s been far too long since we last heard from them. In honor of their first full-length album in seven (7!) years (Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast, out on July 27th), have yourself a listen to my very favorite Cornershop jam, “Topknot”.
Like most Cornershop releases, “Topknot” (the A-side to a one-off single back in 2004) kind of came out of nowhere, and (also like most Cornershop releases) was totally under-appreciated. I can’t find out anything about the elusive Ms. Bubbley Kaur – not even a photo – but her voice is magic. I also have no idea about the song itself (a quick search for lyric translation brings up nothing) – she could be singing about absolutely anything. But it sounds like sunshine, doesn’t it?

I haven’t been able to find a pix of Bubbley either, but I did have a Hindi friend listen to the song and he says she is singing about having met a boy and is wondering to herself if she should ask him out or not.
You know….kids everywhere are the same!
That’s great, thanks for sharing that! Knowing that it’s as sweet a song as it sounds makes me love it even more, if that were possible.

As if I didn’t already pre-order / pledge extra for the new album! I loaded it onto my iPod first thing this morning and have it ready to go – but since I’m a special kind of geeky fan, I’m waiting for a really good time to give it a first listen!
