The Rakes! Maximo Park! The Futureheads! No, you’re right – none of them have really lived up to all those fantastic first albums (in my opinion, anyway) – but what a collection of first albums they are. And The Rakes were always fun even when they weren’t as great as they were on Capture / Release.

That whole era of Bloc Party / Rakes etc etc was so exciting. I guess, if we’re going to be honest, the next two albums weren’t great from the rakes…. but songs like “retreat” are too good to pass over.
